Winning their Trust

Past the past two days, I talked to Mari, a Ukrainian teacher who fled from Ukraine and found temporary refuge in Posnan in Poland. We have had multiple conversations via Whatsapp and two video calls for the past two days. In one of the video calls, my friend Anton joined us so she could ask anything in Ukrainian, and Anton translated. As I have known Anton for more than 15 years, he could also talk to Mari about me.

As I was driving to Posnan to pick her up with her mom and her son, she told me that she and her family would not be coming back to France with me. She decided to go to Germany instead.

I tried to demonstrate to her that my family and I could be trusted in the past two days, but I failed. I understand her. Who am I for her? This guy from nowhere promises to take care of her and her family at no cost while in France for the duration of the war? Many times, she asked me to repeat why I was doing this? What did I expect in return?

I know my offer seems too good to be true, but I am genuinely doing it because I want to help someone in need. I hope I will convince someone that there is nothing hidden.

Tomorrow, I hope to find a family that will give me a chance to win their trust
